In an effort to beat a dead horse breathe some life into this blog…

I’ll post random banalities. In staccato. (You have been warned.) (more…)

Theorycrafting MTG 01

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

Let’s start with Mind Funeral (Figure 1-1). We (lsun and I) calculated that it had approximately the same average number of milled cards as Sanity Grinding, so I guess it was meant to be its spiritual successor for Constructed play come Winter. Sanity Grinding had an average of 10.4 cards milled, and Mind Funeral clocked in with 10.9 cards against a 22 land deck.

Update: A (terrible) mistake but… how the hell did we get 10.4 cards milled with Sanity Grinding? I ran the calculations again and it should be more like 15! Mind Funeral just doesn’t compare. (more…)

MTG Puzzle 2 Solution

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

I really didn’t expect that Threaten would work on untapped creatures, but I guess the non-explicit wording permits it.

Solution:

Shared Animosity means you want a lot of tribal to do big damage and with Threaten, one might be tempted to grab their shamans to boost your own. Unfortunately this won’t do nearly enough damage. The trick here is to play Sparkspitter and Threaten it so that you can use it’s ability to get another Spark Elemental out and trample down your opponent.

MTG Puzzle 2

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Another puzzle which, like the previous one, can be quite unintuitive.

This puzzle actually had quite a few versions due to some mistakes on card wording. The original had a Magus of the Arena and was totally cooler, but what can you do?

We introduced quite a few distractions to the solution of the puzzle, obfuscating the one key point without which the puzzle is unsolvable.

MTG Puzzle 1

Monday, March 10th, 2008

While playing some constructed MTG with my friend, we came across an interesting situation where he had a possible win, though neither of us noticed until the end of the game which occurred quite a few turns later.

We decided others might enjoy a chance to figure this out, albeit in a different form to possibly obfuscate and hopefully enrich the situation. Also, the actual game was a bit more complicated as there was no immediate pressure to win within a couple of turns – unlike in the puzzle presented below:

State of the blog

Tuesday, January 16th, 2007

I almost forgot about the blog… OTL

For the past few weeks I’ve been playing a lot of tda dota with friends, but now that The Burning Crusade has been released, looks like they’re all back to the old grind. >_>

So until I cave in and get the expansion too, I’m going to have a lot more time to work on vectors and watch anime again. That means a lot more posts!! woooot. >_> <_<

Farming rep at work and at home

You hand in 1000 lines of code.
You gain 500 Experience.
Your reputation with DayJob has increased by 50.
You are now Unfriendly with DayJob.

Anyways, due to WoW, I haven’t had much time to watch anime, but thats okay. This new season (and the last one) isn’t looking up. NHK doesn’t look all that appealing, and Zero no Tsukaima just feels like a Shakugan no Shana re-hash. If it weren’t for Utawarerumono I might have given up on anime watching for this year T____T.
