I really didn’t expect that Threaten would work on untapped creatures, but I guess the non-explicit wording permits it.
Solution:
Shared Animosity means you want a lot of tribal to do big damage and with Threaten, one might be tempted to grab their shamans to boost your own. Unfortunately this won’t do nearly enough damage. The trick here is to play Sparkspitter and Threaten it so that you can use it’s ability to get another Spark Elemental out and trample down your opponent.
More rigorously:
- Tap the 7 lands, and tap Smokebraider for 2 red mana.
- Use the 2 from Smokebraider and 1 regular mana to play Sparkspitter.
- Threaten Sparkspitter, use it’s ability to discard Fiery Temper so that you can pay it’s Madness cost, and put a Spark Elemental into play. This will consume 5 mana, leaving you with 1 left.
- Play the Spark Elemental.
- Finally, sacrifice your 7 lands, Smokebraider, and Sparkspitter for Gargadon.
- Swing with your Garg and two 4/1 Sparks.
- They can only block a maximum of 3 damage, and totaled with the 3 from Fiery, will reduce them to zero life.
Rebuttals:
The closest alternative case is when you Threaten their Wolf-Skull, Fiery Temper them for full mana cost, and left with only 1 mana, play the Spark Elemental.
There is no difference between using the Fiery to kill one of their creatures to prevent blocking or doing the damage directly to them.
Anyways, attacking with the Shaman, Smokebraider and Spark will give you a 3/2, 3/1, and 4/1. Of this damage, the Shaman and Smoke can be chump-blocked, and the 4/1 can be blocked with their remaining Shaman, meaning only 2 damage will go through. You will be short by 1.
