Well, I agree on a lot, but… I have to disagree on the point that the characters don’t have as explicit inner conflicts.
I’m not sure if you know this already, but the series is based off of a novel series.
In the first book, where Youko comes in, she is very quiet, so her inner conflicts are written inside the novel.
In the anime, however, one cannot have such a quiet character and still have a growing story.
That is why the producers tried adding in the two characters that travel with her…
I personally think that decision was not good enough and sorta took away from the original story in the end, but… it still was a good series that made me buy the whole two DVD sets. ^^
